Miss Deaf Teen Michigan Pageant

July 28, 2007 was the first time in history that Michigan crowned a Deaf Teen Queen. Karlee Gruetzner earned the crown and will reign until 2009.

The first teen pageant was held at Kalamazoo State Theatre directed by Jamie Maes and Kendra Rose.

Contestants ranged from ages 13 to 17 and attended Michigan School for the Deaf or mainstreamed high schools in the state of Michigan.

Contestants received a week-long leadership training in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Contestants were judged on the following criteria:

Platform Presentation; Talent; Private Interview; and Stage Interview.

Miss Deaf Teen Michigan will compete at the Miss Deaf Teen America Pageant in Washington, D.C. on March 5-8, 2008. Click here for more information on the Mr./Miss Deaf Teen America Pageant.

Miss Deaf Teen Michigan will represent her peers in the State of Michigan by staying current on teen issues within the Deaf community. She is also required to participate in community service for her sponsor and the Miss Deaf Michigan Pageant Association.

Miss Deaf Teen Michigan will accompany Miss Deaf Michigan (2007-2009) to the National Association of the Deaf conference in New Orleans in 2008.

As an ambassador for Miss Deaf Michigan Pageant Association, Miss Deaf Teen Michigan will attend workshops and meetings held at the National Association of the Deaf conference, as well as attend the preliminary and final competition for the Miss Deaf America Pageant.

She will report her experience to MDMPA, MDA, as well as to her peers in the Deaf Teenage community.

A Pageant First

The first Miss Deaf Teen Michigan, Karlee Gruetzner and Mr. Deaf Teen Michigan, Ray McCall will compete in the Mr. and Miss Teen Deaf America Pageant at Model Secondary School for the Deaf in Washington, D.C. on March 5-8th.

On April 6th, 2007 the Miss Deaf Michigan Pageant Association launched their new website design.

On our new site we've made it easy for you to access information. Site features include, color themed categories for Miss, Teen and Junior sections.
