       Miss Deaf Michigan Ambassadorship Program

Announcement from MDMDAP Director

Miss Deaf Michigan Deaf Ambassadorship Program is proud to announce that we have a
winner! Catie Van Broekhoven. She will be going down to  Louisville, Kentucky this summer
to represent the State of Michigan in the  National Ambassadorship/Pageant during the
National Association of the  Deaf  convention.
              Congratulations Catie!

I would like to take the time to introduce myself. My name is Catie Van Broekhoven, and I am Miss Deaf
Michigan 2012! I was born and raised in Grand Rapids. I graduated from Michigan School for the Deaf in
2009. After High School, I did what  every normal graduate does; I attend college.  As told in Robert Frost’s
poem, “The Road Not Taken” , I left community college in order  to pursue another road, the work force. I
currently work at Michigan School for the Deaf  as one on one aide. It is by far the most interesting, hectic,
enjoyable job I’ve ever had, and I love it! One of best things about being an aide is that I get to work in the
field that I would love to pursue as an  education; working with deaf/hard of hearing children. Not only I
love learning new things everyday, I also enjoy traveling, photography, and working with the youth today.
It might sound cliché, but I believe that children are our future. Because of that, I dedicate my time with
multiple after school activities at work.
As Miss Deaf Michigan, one of the things I’m looking forward to the most is the traveling time and meeting
new people! With meeting new people, I hope to have an impact upon them and empower them so they
can become successful as well I would like to take the time to thank my loved ones for all the support.
But most importantly, I would like to thank you. Without you, I wouldn’t be here. To continue making an
impact on people, and to travel to Kentucky this summer for the National Deaf Conference, I need your
help. Costs of traveling are high nowadays, and ant contributions that you can make via donations or
purchase  made through fundraising will help me take the next step into achieving my dream:
to change the world, one step at a time.
